If you’ve identified a need for window film at your home or workplace, your next question is – how much does window tint cost? Whether it’s window tinting, solar window film, custom decorative film, or privacy film, there is much to consider.
What determines window tint cost?
Window tint cost is determined by the following factors:
Window tint type and performance rating
Estimating window tint cost is not a straightforward guess and relies on numerous factors. When calculating the cost, it’s important to rectify what the window film is intended to achieve – privacy, solar heat rejection, or other. Tint prices vary depending on the properties and quality of the window film. At ALLCOOL, we use the best Solar Gard window film products, which come in a range of styles and materials.
Each Solar Gard film is graded and rated by its performance on a standard 3mm thick clear glass. The main performance indicators are measured as a percentage and include Visible Light Transmittance, Visible Light Reflectance (exterior), UV light blocked, and Total Solar Energy Rejected. The window films are rated somewhere between:
- 5% - 89% for Visible Light Transmittance (VLT)
- 5% - 61% for Visible Light Reflectance (VLR) – exterior
- 95% - 99% for Ultraviolet light blocked
- 18-85% for Total Solar Energy Rejected (TSER)
In many cases, you won’t need the same film all around the house or workplace. For example, if you need solar window film, you’ll only install these on the windows that receive direct sunlight. Choosing a product and its application at the house or workplace will impact the window tint cost. If you’re unsure what you need, ALLCOOL can provide expert advice to help you make an informed decision.

Window size
The number of glass panels and dimensions of each window will be the biggest cost determining factor. The more windows or the bigger they are, the more film that’s needed.
Type of window
Some windows may require a little more care to have them prepared for film application. For example, if windows are old, the film application is more complicated. Should the window be separated by panels, have a unique shape, or other abnormal feature, the application process takes longer to complete too.
Other difficulty factors to consider
Some other factors that influence window tint cost are whether there is a safety risk or difficult manoeuvre required to get the job done. For instances where the window is located up high – like a skylight, we may need a specialised ladder or lift.

How do installers calculate the final price
When predicting the final window tint cost, it’s not enough to simply measure the window size and multiply by the cost per square metre. Window films are supplied in set roll widths and cut to size, which inevitably means there’s excess which isn’t used. For this reason, it’s recommended to round up your ball-park supply figure by 10-15%.
When ALLCOOL Window Films conducts a free measure and quote at your property, we’ll devise a cutting plan to reduce waste and provide the best possible cost price to you.
Other elements to factor into the cost are removing any existing window film, the need for specialised equipment, and jobs that require more time to complete. A time-consuming job may involve applying film to multiple small panels, such as colonial windows. In this instance, the square metre cost would be low, while the labor cost may be higher.
Average window tint cost
The film itself may cost anywhere between $45m2 to $200m2 or more depending on product specifications. For example, solar and security films generally cost more than entry-level tint and frosted films.
On top of the window tint cost is the installation price which factors in the window type and other unique circumstances as discussed above.
